Research Programme
Peer-reviewed. Rigorous. Female-led. We are building the evidentiary foundation that the field has been missing, and publishing every step of it.
Paper 01: Active Study
A comprehensive evaluation of the current evidence for sweat-based biosensing of oestradiol, progesterone, and cortisol. Establishing what is validated, what is in development, and what gaps remain, as the scientific foundation for SOMA's biosensor design.
SOMA's research is built on real data from real athletes. Whether you're a female endurance runner or a coach working with them, your participation directly powers the evidence base behind our platform.
For Athletes
Female endurance runners can sign up to take part in SOMA's founding research cohort. Help us build the evidence base for cycle-synced training.
Complete the form →For Coaches
Coaches and teams working with female endurance athletes can register their interest in SOMA's research programme and Coach Portal.

SOMA Connect is a research study on how menstrual-cycle phase relates to running performance. You join with a study code from our team, then contribute your running data by uploading the activity export from your sports app, such as Garmin Connect, and by entering your period dates in the app. Everything is stored under a pseudonymous ID.
Your data is used only for this research, kept confidential, and you can withdraw and request deletion at any time. Cycle phases are estimates from dates, not hormone measurements, and nothing here is medical advice.
If you're taking part in our current research, follow the steps below to install SOMA Connect on your iPhone or iPad — no App Store required.
iPhone / iPad · Safari
SOMA Connect works as a Progressive Web App — it installs directly from Safari and sits on your Home Screen just like a native app, with no download needed.
The SOMA Connect icon will appear on your Home Screen, ready to open like any app.
Don't see "Add to Home Screen"?
Make sure you are using Safari, not Chrome or another browser. Then:
Female endurance runners can join the Female Endurance Study, SOMA's founding participant cohort.
